I did stumble upon the research from Ian York a while ago and already posted in detail about it in the thread labled Does Jointcracking lead to arthritis?
There is indeed lots of meat in his research. Alas, I have not found the time to follow-up on all the referenced papers yet.
More people need to realise joint cracking is a problem and investigate it i reckon
