How do i stop!

  • Legacy poll results
My parents keep telling me to stop and my dad's friend who is a gp says i will get arthritis when i am older. I have noticed that i have lost support and my grip in my fingers and i am worrying now if i will get arthritis.

Anybody got any advice for me,

    Thanks,

    Blaze

Getting arthritis from Jointcracking is a common misconception.

See Does Jointcracking lead to arthritis? for a detailed analysis.

In short, don't worry! Lots and lots of knuckle cracking can lead to a slight loss in grip and maybe a little swelling but that's about the worst which can happen due to knuckle cracking alone. The same should apply to any other cracked joint.

There are guys like JonnyUtah who have been cracking for years and years without developing anything serious.

Personally, I consider Jointcracking to be an annoying OCD for the most part. So maybe it won't kill me but being as annoying as it is, it seems still worth trying to get rid of.

  • buy my dad's gp friend says i will. When i bend my fingers back they don't hurt. I can't grip in the morning

Well your dad's gp is obviously only trying to scare you.

Of course I'm open to any new findings. He is invited to visit here and cite scientific papers which successfully correlated joint cracking as a possible cause (and NOT side effect) of arthritis in proper studies.

To the best of my knowledge there is absolutely no scientific basis for this claim as of yet.

  • he's not trying to scare me - he's telling the truth i think.

Because its not right losing your grip and your fingers bending back without any support.

  • Wow Blaze you've been having the same conversation here for some time.
What is your Current belief about arthritis and joint cracking?
You still think cracking is BAD?

  • That was a while ago.

    Jeez sorry.

  • No apology necessary.

  • And what has this thread got to do with introductions Blaze? 😄 lol

  • So has this site changed your views at all or you still side with the GP?

  • Interesting question actually MC - personally this site has given me so much new information 😎
i'll stop now because i assume you were asking blaze and i dont want to hijack the thread lol

  • No, my view has staid or even to the extent, strengthened that joint cracking is bad.

  • would you care to back that up?
elaborate on What makes you think that.
    and why?
    I'm interested.

  • Complete and utter nonsense. I deal with people every day with terrible arthritis in their feet and I'm certain they never cracked their toes! If you're going to get arthritis you're going to get it. My Father had terrible arthritis in his hands and never cracked in his life. Blaze has one topic and that's it. And frankly, it's getting slightly tiresome seeing him repeat his mantra constantly. If you don't like cracking don't join a jointcrackers site. Leave the rest of us alone to enjoy ourselves.

  • I guess you have to trust the podiatrist…

  • Not really as that is only toes.

And if i am asked my opinion then i will say it Locker regardless of what you want.

Oh yeh - let me think about this? Well, you commented on a thread ENTITLED!: HOW DO I STOP CRACKING? SO it is LOGICAL to assume that the content is asking HOW TO STOP and WHY I THINK THIS.

Yeh knew you would do the option saying grow up - you don't moan when for instance Bod8 refers to his toes a lot.

  • That's some vote! You can see who voted for what! FFS! As I said, if you don't want to crack don't. Just don't preach to me and others who like to. I'll take my chances with arthritis, poor grip etc. How many old people have a good grip anyway regardless of whether they crack or not? Very few. My wife is an O.T. and is in the business of aids for living. She doesn't only hand kit out to crackers!
