Anyone ever experienced this or had the pain of waking themselves up by cracking?

No, put I've been woken up by the need to crack, especially my neck and feet, although I only remember it when I've just drifted into sleep or would be close to getting up anyway. Of course, this comes from someone who gets up and turns 5 alarm clocks off in the morning without remembering it when I wake up several hours after I was supposed to get up. I will often start my morning cracking without paying attention though.

Sometimes I have trouble falling asleep because my toes and, not so much, fingers feel stiff and in need of cracking. I suspect there's an underlying cause for those episodes.

When my son was a toddler he would often end up in bed with us where he would thrash around a make a nuisance of himself. One morning I woke up to the feeling of my back cracking because he had pressed his feet against my back and pressed really hard.

Hah! I know the feeling of being kicked by children! Unfortunately none of my four managed to crack my back. Just woke me up!

I have been told I crack in my sleep. Which would explain why I can only crack so many joints when I wake up.
